Podcast #536: “There’s A God” by Mary-Clair

Play episode

I’m Michelle Nezat and I hope to inspire you to discover and meditate on God’s Word through the songs you’re listening to on the radio.

There are moments when the darkness feels heavy, and hope feels far away. On those days, it can be hard to know where to turn or what to believe. What do you do when your feelings tell you one story, but Scripture tells another?

In today’s episode of More Than a Song, we use “There’s a God” by Mary-Clair as our starting point—not to ignore pain or rush past grief, but to look honestly at it through the lens of Scripture. Together, we’ll turn our eyes to Jesus on His darkest day and discover how Psalm 22 helps us navigate our own moments of despair with truth, honesty, and hope.

Key Points

  • Dark days can be debilitating, and our inclination to curve in on ourselves
  • Looking to Jesus to see what HE is looking at on His darkest day
  • Jesus’ cry on the cross points us directly to Psalm 22, a song of lament and trust
  • Psalm 22 models how to hold both honest emotion and Capital‑T Truth together
  • Jesus is not distant from our pain—He fully entered it and understands it
  • Our feelings are real, but they are not the full story
  • Scripture helps interrupt distorted thought loops with God’s character and faithfulness
  • Walking through honesty is often the doorway to deeper hope

On Jesus’ darkest day, we see that He is reminded of Psalm 22; in fact, He points us to Psalm 22 by calling out the first line. Meditate on Psalm 22. Discern what is true about God and what feels true in the midst of trauma and hopelessness. Use the Episode Guide to apply the Care Cycle to Psalm 22 and ultimately your life.
